Focal Point

Focal Point is a significant ministry at Rockford Reformed Church, designed as a time for us to gather together and learn as a community. It is an opportunity for us to explore God's word and grow together in our understanding and application of it. This aligns with our mission of being disciples who make disciples, emphasizing our commitment to growing in Christlikeness and helping others do the same.

  • Temporary Changes to Focal Point: Due to the ongoing building project, we will be meeting on Sundays instead of Wednesdays. Fortunately, we will still be serving food, but with limited space we will be taking our food with us to our classes.
  • New Elements of Focal Point: We are excited to introduce a time of family worship to our Focal Point gatherings. This special time will allow families to come together and worship God as a unit, strengthening their bonds and their faith as a family.
  • Classes Offered: We will be offering two adult classes: a general class for adults and a Bible study for adults. To start the year, we plan to have a course covering the content of Alisa Childers' book, "Another Gospel?" and a Bible study on the book of James (more details on back).

FocalPoint is crucial for our development as disciples. It provides an opportunity for us to deepen our understanding of God’s Word, grow in our relationship with God, and support one another in our spiritual journeys. We encourage everyone to consider attending FocalPoint and to invite friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family to join us as well. Together, as we engage with the Focal Point ministry, we can grow in Christlikeness and fulfill our mission of being disciples who make disciples.

Focal Point class: Another Gospel?

  • Sundays, 6-7pm in the Fireside Room. Leaders: Beth Triezenberg, Venus Finck, James Karsten
  • In a postmodern world of ever-changing definitions and feelings over facts, how do we understand and live into Gospel truths? Do we know the Truth so well we can recognize when it is skewed by culture? Please join Beth Triezenberg, Venus Finck, and James Karsten for a seven-week time of engagement, learning, and conversation using Alisa Childers’ book “Another Gospel” as our guide. Alisa writes of her several-year journey wrestling with a series of questions that struck at the core of her Christian faith. In a winsome and approachable way, she leads us through core understandings of the beauty, power, and truth of the Gospel.

Focal Point Bible study: James

  • Sundays, 6-7pm in Room 250. Leader: Mike Fisk
  • Join us this fall for our Focal Point Bible study on the book of James. Over 10 weeks, we'll dive deep into discussions led by Mike, helping us all get a better understanding of the gospel, its impact on our daily lives, and how we can lean more on God every day. Arrive at 5pm for fellowship, worship, and dinner. Study will start at 6pm in Room 250. You are welcome to eat during the discussion.

Schedule notes:

  • 10/29 — All-church activity: Trunk-or-Treat
  • 11/26 — No Focal Point (Thanksgiving break)
  • 12/17 — All-church activity: Family Christmas Party

Youth Group

Our middle and high school youth group will once again both meet on Sunday evenings, with a slightly different schedule due to our temporary setup during construction. We will begin with games in the youth room at 5pm, then join the adults in the gym for a family worship time. At 5:45 we will have dinner available in the youth room. We will start the year studying the book of Daniel.

Schedule notes:

  • 9/17 — Youth Group open house with parents
  • 10/20 — 3 Mile Project All-Nighter
  • 10/22 — No meeting due to all-nighter
  • 10/29 — All-church activity: Trunk-or-Treat
  • 11/26 — No Focal Point (Thanksgiving break)
  • 12/16 — Progressive Dinner
  • 12/17 — All-church activity: Family Christmas Party

KidLife Club

KidLife Club is our Sunday night kids’ program (3 years through 5th grade) that uses large group Bible lessons, small group discussions, games, activities, and more to build community and teach kids about the life-saving gospel of Jesus. We meet from 5-7pm Sunday evenings. We start in the gym with a dinner just for the kids. This will take place while the adults have fellowship time (also in the gym), so parents will be able to help their kids out if needed. After the family worship time, kids will be taken to their own classrooms for the remainder of the evening.
